Qui Gulliver incontra dei giganti, i Brobdingnag. In viaggio verso le Indie Orientali e fortunosamente scampato ai pirati, Gulliver finisce nella terra fluttuante di Laputa, abitata da studiosi di musica e matematica del tutto inetti sul piano pratico.

Tema centrale del romanzo è l’educazione di Gulliver attraverso le varie esperienze: l’alterazione di forme e misure (i minuscoli lillipuziani, i giganti, l’isola volante e i cavalli intelligenti) è finalizzata all’osservazione delle cose del mondo sotto una luce diversa.
