Tramandata in un codice etiòpico è la versione in cui il corpo nudo della ragazza viene tagliato in pezzi e inghiottito dalla terra con accanto, su di un piatto, la testa di Giovanni Battista. Proprio per l’accumulo di varie leggende riguardanti la morte, Salomè viene attirata in una zona d’ombra e di mistero.

Salomè, istigata dalla madre, chiese la testa di Giovanni Battista ed il re non potè rifiutarsi poichè la promessa era stata udita da tutti i commensali. Una guardia decapitò, allora, Giovanni (il “martiro” ricordato da Dante in Pd. XXXII, 32)) e portò a Salomè la testa su di un vassoio.
