Cosa significa T-score?

Significato del T-score Un T-score tra -1,0 e -2,5 significa che la densità ossea è bassa, ossia è indicativo di osteopenia. Un T-score di -2,5 o meno è diagnostico di osteoporosi. Si parla infine di osteoporosi conclamata quando il T-score è inferiore a -2,5 ed è presente una o più fratture da fragilità.

Cosa fare quando si ha l’osteoporosi?

La cura dell’osteoporosi

  1. dieta equilibrata (e tarata su un’eventuale carenza di calcio e vitamina D)
  2. attività fisica regolare.
  3. prevenzione delle cadute e delle fratture in genere.
  4. alcuni farmaci che rallentano o impediscono la perdita della densità ossea, oppure che la aumentano.

Cosa fare quando si ha l osteopenia?

Tra i farmaci per l’osteopenia, rientrano: I bifosfonati. Sono medicinali in grado di aumentare la densità minerale ossea, limitando il processo di decalcificazione delle ossa. I bifosfonati più somministrati in caso di osteopenia sono: l’alendronato, il risedronato, l’ibandronato e l’acido zoledronico.

Come si calcola l’osteoporosi?

La MOC (mineralometria ossea computerizzata) è il macchinario utilizzato per la densitometria ossea, un esame che serve per diagnosticare l’osteoporosi e in generale per misurare la densità minerale delle ossa in soggetti a rischio, permettendo di valutare il rischio di fratture spontanee nell’arco di 10 anni.

What is Frax®?

FRAX® is a sophisticated risk assessment instrument, developed by the University of Sheffield. It uses risk factors in addition to DXA measurements for improved fracture risk estimation. It is a useful tool to aid clinical decision making about the use of pharmacologic therapies in patients with low bone mass.

What is the difference between Frax and DXA?

In summary, in the UK, FRAX is used to select patients for DXA. In other words, every patient with DXA will have FRAX first. In contrast, in the US, DXA is used to select patients for FRAX.

What is the FRAX score for femoral neck fracture?

The femoral neckT-score is −2.3. The FRAX results are shown on the DXA printout just below the BMD results.
